This year for World Book day we decided to have a pyjama day. We wanted to make this a day of bedtime stories so it became a really cosy day with lots of snuggling down in dens, low lighting and hot chocolate, both indoors and outdoors.
It was a busy day of becoming authors and illustrators, creating our own books with words and pictures. Andrea and Sarah helped to scribe as we told the story of our pictures, adding our own letters and words where we were able to. We also enjoyed joining in with some yoga where we went on a bear hunt!
We read so many stories in so many cosy areas. We practiced our rhyming skills through rhyming books and explored syllables by clapping out the titles of the stories and then trying our names. We did a great big letter hunt and found all different sized letters in our environment. Some of us even knew the name and sound the letters made. We then used the letters to spell out our names with a little help from Ann and Emma.
We made yummy letter cookies too. We followed the recipe to make a dough and then used the cutters to cut out the letters of our names. We didn’t cook these cookies though, that’s for next time! Gillian and Clara helped us to make some tasty hot chocolate which we enjoyed with a story and some fruit for snack.
The cosy reading dens, inside and outside, were super popular and we loved getting cosy in them to read our stories. We cuddled in with Angela and Eilidh in the tent in the garden, wrapped in blankets to stay warm, and enjoyed making up our own stories round the campfire (we used our imagination for the fire this time). Caroline and Lee set up the puppet theatre so we could act out our own stories and re-tell familiar ones. Overall, it was a fantastic, literacy filled day for all! Check out Cody reading a little of his book to us.
