We have been very quiet on our blog recently as nursery life has been super busy. With the challenges of the past 2 years catching up on us all, we took the opportunity to use our most recent in-service day to reset and recharge.
It is important that we invest both time and resources in staff wellbeing and being positive about mental health at work, so we try to adopt a proactive and preventative approach to staff wellbeing in our service. Our children are at the heart of what we do, but staff wellbeing must be supported for them to be able to give their all to our children.
For our in-service day the whole team took a trip to Carbeth, a hutting community 10 miles north of Glasgow. As Angela is training in Forest Schools, we took the opportunity to use her new found skills to develop the whole teams knowledge in outdoor learning. She taught us about risk assessing, site appraisals, whittling, den building, safe fire building and we even had the opportunity to use our new skills to toast some marshmallows and enjoy a cup of tea made in our kelly kettle. This was a great opportunity for team building, working together and sharing skills and knowledge to complete a task. Plus, it was great fun!
After a fabulous training session from Angela, we took a wellbeing walk around Carbeth, where we used our cameras to capture magic and inspiration in nature, followed by a meditation in the woods led by Ann. What a lovely experience, lying in the woods, staring up at the trees with the rain on your face. By the end of the day, we were soaked and tired, so we finished off an amazing day with a nice little wellbeing gift from Caroline and a hot lunch before setting of home before Storm Dudley hit!
Check out our video below to see what we got up to.
