You may have noticed a multitude of changes to our Rainbow Garden over the past couple of months. Our children and staff have been working incredibly hard to create our very own magical nature garden.
Working in collaboration with the local community, we have been sharing ideas and learning methods of growing and developing this new area. We have been using our imagination as we come up with a design for the garden; through close teamwork, we developed gross and fine motor skills as we began our planting journey.
We have been learning lots about intergenerational working as well as the importance of community and togetherness as we gain insight into the work the local community does. With help from B&Q, Tesco, Aldi, Co-op and the Bridge of Weir Horticultural Society, we have been discovering more about Froebel’s natural world and the relevance of this to child development, learning and play. From this, we have then been developing our mark making skills as we write thank you letters and invites to lunch for those who have helped make this project a reality.
Through play we encourage strong independence skills as we promote active progression in our children’s learning. Children freely access the outdoor areas and are encouraged to self register, dress independently, find their puddle suit size, and wash their boots before they put them away.
We have been working together to create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for our children. Through encouragement to explore, learn and discover, we offer them opportunities to develop holistically with our ELCC’s vision and values at the core of everything we envision for the garden, while ensuring this is reflected in our everyday play.
We invited members of the Bridge of Weir Horticultural Society to lunch to thank them for helping us with our garden. On the menu was a selection of soups: pumpkin, potato and leek, tomato, alongside homemade bread, apple or raspberry jam, scones and shortbread. Most of the delicious food on offer was made from items grown in our gardens.
